PLANS to demolish a 1970s skatepark, build a new leisure centre and redevelop the town centre were part of a raft of proposals given the go ahead last night.

Harrow Council will now replace Harrow Leisure Centre, in Christchurch Avenue, with a new building on top of Harrow Skatepark as long as it gets approval from Sport England, an organisation which advises local councils on planning projects.

The proposed site of a replacement skatepark was also approved with the same condition.

Plans for five blocks of 380 flats, which will be built in Gayton Road, were also approved, paving the way for hundreds of residents to enter the borough.

They will be at the former home of Gayton Road Library and in Sonia Court, which is next to it.

Harrow College's two buildings will now be brought together in a 33,970 square metre campus, at what was Lowlands Road Recreation Ground.

More to follow.
