OPINION is divided over the future of a Pinner tradition which stretches back to the 14th Century.

The Harrow Times web poll revealed 47 per cent want the Showmen's Guild to continue running Pinner Fair.

Its future came under threat after it emerged the guild and Harrow Council had held emergency meetings over the running costs.

There had been a danger the fair would not happen at all this year, after objections from the guild to the £45,000 cost of putting on the one-day event.

35.3 per cent of people who voted in the poll want the fair to close, a view shared by some sections of the Pinner community who object to the disruption it causes.

The fair was given the right to happen each year by Royal Charter, but if it did not go ahead one year in some form, it would lose the charter.

However, in the poll, only 14.7 per cent want to see the fair return to its locally-run roots, and just three per cent support the idea of the council taking it over.

This year's fair is going ahead after the guild and the council came to an agreement.

It will take place on Wednesday, May 28.

I think that this fair should be stopped once and for all as the people that operate it are all crooks and are out for all the money they can get from the public by ripping them off
