POLICE in Stanmore will be "bluejacking" members of the public this week using mobile phone technology.

Officers will be driving up and down Stanmore Broadway, sending Bluetooth messages from a laptop to the mobiles of drivers and pedestrians as they pass by.

The messages will ask residents to email police and the council about problems in their local area.

Great idea I don’t think. Firstly pedestrians and drivers would have to have their mobile phones visibility switched on and secondly you have to accept an incoming Bluetooth message. This means that they won’t be able to communicate with the law abiding drivers only the ones breaking the law by answering a message from the Police thus using their mobile phone whilst driving. Someone hasn’t thought this one through. Besides what’s wrong with the suggestion box scheme launched by Harrow Police and now being rolled out across London?

This goes beyond lame. Police driving up and down a road hoping to connect with 'the people'
How about I tell you now about the problem of police wasting their time driving up and down a street with no clear aim instead of responding to crime . Lame
