Pinner pub granted conditional licence

A PINNER pub has regained its licence after a hearing this evening.

Numerous residents had complained about an application by The Starling for a late licence and permission for live music and dancing.

But the application was scaled back this evening, making it the same as the previous licence which had lapsed when the pub changed ownership.

The pub, in Rickmansworth Road, Pinner, was given permission to open until 12am on Monday to Thursday, and until 1am on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

But a noise limiter must be installed on speakers to control the disruption felt by neighbours when music is played, and smoking outside will not be allowed after 11pm.

Ruth Boff, secretary of the Pinner Association, which had objected to the original application, said she was pleased with the result of the meeting.

She said: "The Pinner Association feels everybody is entitled to a good night's sleep in their own homes between the hours of 11pm and 7am.

"We were confused why the pub didn't try to renew its licence as it was.

"We wish the pub success, but all pubs need to be well managed and live in harmony with the local community."

During the meeting, held at Harrow Civic Centre, in Station Road, Wealdstone, residents who live near the pub complained of noise coming from the pub as late as 3am, and said events had been held there in the past until late, such as a charity bungee jump.

But the owner of the pub, Pravin Patel, said he was not sure why so many people objected to the application.

He said: "The licence is exactly the same as it has been for 15 to 20 years, I don't know where they got their objections from.

"We have never had any problems in the past, and this whole process, six weeks waiting, has cost me a lot of money."

Another condition of the licence is residents who live close to The Starling will have a phone number they can call to complain about problems coming from the pub.
