A COW has been killed at the biggest Hare Krishna Temple in Britain in defiance of the religious views of the monks who run it.

Police accompanied RSPCA officers onto the grounds of Bhaktivedanta Temple, in Hillfield Lane, Watford, where the cow, called Gangotri, was put down at 9am this morning.

More to follow.

What do you think of the decision to put down the cow?

I don't know the details of this case, but the case against Shambo in Wales was flawed and I highlighted this at the time in my blog -

The RSPCA is big business. In order for it to survive it must coninually grow and find new markets. It seems that this now involves a cow protection project where hindus care for cows better than we care for humans. Let us hope we don't extend the RSPCA's logic to humans or we will all be bumped off if we become bed ridden. The RSPCA was not set up for this, these people were caring for the animal in a way the RSPCA's founders could only dream of.

If the RSPCA turn up at your door are you happy? Not at all they are meant to look after the interests of animals yet it seems the members within the organization are power hungry and callous. If they truly had the wellbeing of the animals at heart why do they kill practically everything they save from somebody else. Is there no food or medicine available for animals that have been abused. They seem to kill rather than have to deal with the results of saving. Cheaper to kill than care for.

I was working that time when cow Gangotri had leg problems and every week i could see difference in cows Gangotris health. she was getting better and better last time on okt 2007 Gangotri was on her legs for few minutes and she was trying to stand up more and more every time that was big progress and am sure that after 3-4 months cow Gangotri will walk again.
but something terrible happen - RSPCA just come and kill the cow Gangotri and why they kill cow who was getting better every day ?

I am a regular Sunday visitor at the temple. I went to see the cow each time I visited the temple, (since the time of her injury). My heart was delighted to see her slow recovery. And now I feel so sad! What RSPCA people have accomplished by murdering it?! The cow did not had any infection or cosed any danger to humans.
