School kids donned hard hats and high-visibility jackets to look at the building works underway at a retirement home.

The children from Alpha Preparatory School visited the upcoming retirement home Rosen House in Hindes Road, Harrow, to learn about safety.

During the trip, they used a crane in a mock construction site set up by retirement home builder, McCarthy and Stone.

Christopher Trindad, a teacher at Alpha Preparatory School, said: “The pupils thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Rosen House.

“We’re grateful to the McCarthy and Stone team for inviting us to the development.

“Everyone found the trip enjoyable and informative, and it was great to get the pupils thinking about safety in and around building sites.”

The visit was organised by McCarthy and Stone to relay safety messages and to promote the construction industry to a young audience.

Peter Creighton, regional construction director at McCarthy and Stone North London, said: “At McCarthy and Stone, health and safety are always at the forefront of all our minds.

“A number of the pupils from Alpha Preparatory School live near the site, and it is vital they understand how to play safely in the community.

“While at Rosen House the group had the opportunity to take a look at the plant machinery and hopefully we managed to convey how great it is to work on a construction site.

“Perhaps it will incentivise some of them to consider housebuilding as a career when they’re older.”
