A young pilot plans to take to the skies in an impressive display distributing sweets for a charity.

Jez Walsh, 21, from South Harrow intends to hold his Para Toy & Sweet Drop on August 26 to raise money for the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust.

Flooring salesman, Jez, posted his news on social media saying he would fly his foot launch paramotor aircraft from farmland in Rickmansworth 1000 ft over the town and the Grand Union Canal before landing in Denham Way Play Area in Maple cross.

Before a spiral landing, Jez will release “little parachute men” with sweets for children in the crowd who gather to meet him.

On his JustGiving page, Jez said: “I love waving back at the kids and I am continually told how much they love it.

“After the great response on my post I’ve decided I’ll fly over the park by Maple Cross and drop some parachute men with sweets attached for a bunch of kids and parents and then come in for a landing and a meet-and-greet.”

Jez added, some money would go toward buying sweets and parachutes while the rest would be donated to charity. He hopes to raise over £250.

After his online post Jez said the owner of a sweet shop contacted him offering to supply the sweets if the chosen charity was Essex & Herts Air Ambulance Trust.

Jez told the Watford Observer he started flying in October 2017. “I saw some YouTube videos online, looked into and took the training and then bought equipment.”

He added: “It’s pretty hard to describe because you have no cockpit or controls in front of you, you’re completely unrestricted and you can go as high as you like.”

Jez said there is a legal limit of 10,000 ft in most places. He usually flies between 600 and 1000 ft.
