An industrial estate could be completely overhauled to make way for thousands of new homes.

Brent Council’s planning committee will discuss the future of Northfields Industrial Estate, in Alperton, at a meeting tomorrow evening.

Developers have suggested that the current site be demolished and replaced by almost 3,000 new homes – of which 35 per cent are deemed affordable – as well as large stretches of leisure and business space.

If approved, the ambitious project would have a target completion date of 2038, though it would be carried out in phases.

According to the officers’ report, the buildings could be as tall as 25 storeys and there has been some opposition relating to scale and design.

Transport issues, loss of light and a lack of support for nearby businesses have also been cited as potential stumbling blocks.

But, in addition to the 12 objecting parties, there have been three letters of support for the project.

These supporters praised the good use of open space, the positive job opportunities and the improved connectivity in the area.
