The family of a woman about to celebrate her 102nd birthday are appealing for those who knew her during the war to get in touch and send her a card.

Wyn Davison, who will reach the astonishing milestone on July 22, was based in Harrow during the Second World War when she served in the Women’s Royal Air Force.

Harrow Times:

Wyn, who was born in 1916, helped to pilot the air craft and served in the RAF for around five years. After the war she went back to Sunderland where she grew up to work in a cake shop in Southwick.

She also delivered meals on wheels to the elderly until she was 85 and her nephew, Ron Clark, said: “At one point she was older than some of her customers.”

Wyn’s family are trying to reconnect with people who may still be living in the area who knew her, asking them to send her a card. Her family made a similar appeal at Christmas and Wyn received more than 400 cards with some as far away as Australia.

Ron said: “We are trying to better what she got at Christmas and have a special surprise planned for the day.”

Ron said Wyn is visited by carers four times a day but otherwise lives independently.

Anyone who would like to send a card Wyn should address it: Wyn Davison, C/O Ron Clark, 98 Rowan Avenue, Washington, NE38 9AG. Ron will then deliver the messages to her and help to read the cards.
