A “controversial” pedestrian crossing is set for a makeover following pressure from those who use it every day.

Brent Council said it will be making improvements to the crossing in Shoot-Up-Hill, Kilburn, after residents raised concerns over its safety.

The zebra crossing, which is by St Cuthberts Road, will benefit from new LED advance warning signs on the approaches.

There will also be new road surfacing and road markings, while the surrounding street lighting is set to be improved.

The council added that it is looking at moving the nearby advertising board and bus stop to improve visibility.

Those living close to the crossing, including members of the Fordwych Residents’ Association, had consistently urged the council to improve safety at the site.

Cllr Flick Rea, who sits on neighbouring Camden Council, said it was “good news” that Brent had decided to act.

The improvements are set to be completed in the coming month.
