A Harrow councillor has praised the “valuable” volunteers who work throughout the borough after talking with those involved in Carers Week.

Cllr Krishna Suresh, who is responsible for community cohesion at Harrow Council, dropped into Harrow Carers to learn about what the group does.

He was joined by Cllr Sasi Suresh and Cllr Dan Anderson where they heard about the “vital work” it carries out to support carers in Harrow.

“There is a need for carers within Harrow and more and more people are supporting others,” he said.

“It can take a lot of work, so it is great to see services like Harrow Carers offering respite to those who aid vulnerable people.

“We as a council value each and every citizen who dedicates themselves to the community – they are a huge asset to our borough.”

Harrow Carers, which was formed in 1996, seeks to reduce the burden on those looking after others for free.

As part of Carers Week 2018, it wants to promote its services and encourage unpaid carers to maintain a happy and healthy lifestyle.

It noted that carers often “put their own well-being needs to the back of the queue” and suggested they need support to help them “recharge their batteries”.

Cllr Suresh agreed, and said that people across Harrow will benefit from the contributions of those involved with Carers Week.

“The council supports these relationships, which are about people working together for each other,” he said.

“We are very lucky to have this service and we appreciate their initiatives.”
