Violent and other serious crime such as robbery, assault and burglary proved to be down when compared with sexual assault figures between 2017 and 2018.

But crime data for Harrow captured by the Met Police Force showed serious sexual crimes such as rape and sexual assault had not fallen between March and April 2018, when compared with the previous year.

Other crimes such as residential burglary and robbery had dropped significantly between the same period.

According to data on the Met Police website, there were 54 reported sexual offences in Harrow between March and April 2018. There were 36 sexual assaults and 18 rapes reported - a 7.69% increase on the previous month.

In the same period during 2017, police recorded 53 sexual assaults, including 36 sexual assaults and 17 rapes, down 34.38% on previous month that year.

Other crime statistics taken between March and April this year showed 243 burglaries were recorded - 206 residential and 37 business and commercial, down 14.50% on the previous month.

For the previous year there were 357 recorded burglaries - 297 residential and 60 business and commercial, down 17.86% on the previous month.

Violent crime such as robbery had also decreased with 40 incidents reported this year compared with 75 in 2017.

Personal property crime had fallen from 74 cases last year to 37 in 2018; while robbery involving business property was up from one incident in 2017 to three this year. Robbery in Harrow between March and April was up by 22.22% on the previous month this year.

Other violent crimes between people saw overall figures roughly the same between March and April 2017 and 2018. Last year there were 765 reported incidents compared with 764 this year with some variance between specific violent crimes between people.

For instance, in 2017 there were 219 incidents of common assault compared with 248 for this year. Use of an offensive weapon was up from 12 in 2017 to 15 this year.

Wounding and Grievous Bodily Harm was down from 74 in 2017 to 73 this year and assault with an injury was also down slightly from 171 incidents in 2017 to 158 this year.

When asked about the figures, including the sexual assault crimes in Harrow, Met Police said: “Violent crime is a huge concern both in Harrow and across London; and one we are committed to tackling.

“The borough has recently run a number of proactive operations - such as Op Sceptre - to address violent crime, weapon-enabled crime and serious criminality. This work will continue.

“We also need the help and support of London’s agencies and communities who we know are behind us.

“An increase in the number of sexual offences reported to police is again, replicated throughout the rest of the Met. We see it as a positive sign that people have confidence in the police to investigate fully investigate.
