A green-fingered couple will host an open garden event along with thousands of others as part of a nation-wide charity scheme.
Hasruty and Yogesh Patel from Northwood will throw open their garden gates to the public on May 13 for the third year in a row, to mark this year’s National Garden Scheme.
The Patel’s perfectly pruned patch will feature among around 3,700 other beautiful gardens in the Garden Visitor’s Handbook which is published each year.
All money raised will go toward a variety of charities supported by the scheme, including The Queen’s Nursing Institute, Macmillan Cancer Support, Marie Curie, Carers Trust, Hospice UK, Perennial and Parkinson’s UK.
The Patel’s family garden features Acers, Magnolias and Rhododendrons, as well as a large flowering tulip tree and a perimeter of conifers and high hedges.
Since opening, the Patels’ have added Clematis, an Almond Tree, a Persian Iron Wood, a Forest Pansy and much more besides.
Hasruty said: “We’ve lived here for years and as the children grew up and moved on I started to do more in the garden, it gave me a focus.
“I visited a few open gardens and I had such a good time with the people sharing their personal space with everyone - there is a social element too like meeting like-minded people, sharing planting schemes.
“We are completely hooked now. My garden is my little piece of paradise.”
The Patel’s will host visitors to their garden on May 13 at Ormonde Road in Northwood.
