A community group are organising a street party to celebrate a royal wedding and a football tournament and any extra proceeds will go to support a popular park.

People from Beresford Road, Althorpe Road and Chandos Road in Harrow will get together on May 19 to celebrate the union of Prince Harry and his fiancé, Meghan Markle, and to watch the FA Cup.

An estimated 350 people will meet to enjoy a barbeque and several competitions throughout the day. There will be live music, a photographic treasure hunt and face-painting, as well as a costume photo booth, a bouquet throwing and a chance to write a letter of congratulations to the new couple.

The mayor of Harrow, Cllr Margaret Davine will also attend the festivities to judge a “best dressed house”, cake decoration and hat making competition.

Street party committee treasurer, Marther Bebbington, said: “We just want to have a party really and celebrate the wedding of Harry and Megan.

“We want to bring residents together to enjoy the sunshine and celebrations.”

The event will start at 12pm and all surplus money will go toward the Harrow Recreation Users Association linked to Beresford Road.
