A care home will welcome people from the community to join a “Commonwealth themed” celebration as part of a countrywide open day.

Staff and residents from Buchanan Court on Sudbury Hill in Harrow, will open their doors for the family-friendly party from 2pm on April 21, as part of Care Home Open Day.

The event is one of a nationwide initiative to build lasting relationships between care homes and their communities.

The Care UK home decided to opt for a Commonwealth themed event and are encouraging people to join their staff in dressing up in traditional clothing from Commonwealth countries.

As part of the celebration, bunting inspired by Commonwealth countries will be hung around the home and visitors can look forward to musician, Shareen Gray playing the steel drums.

Traditional dishes will be prepared by the home’s head chef and there will also be complimentary refreshments for all.

Buchanan Court customer relations manager, Zena Khudawes, said: “We are always looking for ways to get to know our neighbours and building relationships.

“Care Home Open Day is a brilliant way of bringing generations together.”

“We look forward to welcoming the people of Harrow for what promises to be a fantastic open day in honour of the Commonwealth.”
