Staff from a care home decided to get a bit sporty ahead of a marathon later this year with a mini race to launch the main event.

On April 12 members of staff from St Luke’s Hospice in Kenton ran against each other through a wall pink bubbles and foam to launch the Bubble Rush 5k event in September.

Winners of the mini race were presented with medals and prizes, and the official Bubble Rush mascot “Finn the Fish” also joined in the fun.

The main Bubble Rush event will happen on September 23 at Kenton recreation ground where more than 1000 people of all ages will run, walk or toddle around the 5k course through lots of multi-coloured bubbles.

Participants will also get to meet “Finn the Fish” for a cuddle or a selfie.

St Luke’s look after people with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses such as motor neurone disease, heart, lung and kidney failure.

It costs around £3million a year to keep the hospice running so it can provide 2924 days of in-patient care.
