A care home will host a “Great British” sporting event to mark an annual open day across the country.

Staff and residents at Rowanweald Residential and Nursing Home in Harrow will hold the sporty contest on April 21 to mark the sixth annual Care Home Open Day.

The Rowanweald team will hang bunting and devise fun and games for members of the community and the families of residents, as well as offering a range of tasty treats and homemade cakes.

Getting in training, 79-year-old resident Christopher Bennett (pictured), said: “Wow I feel really strong. The sports day sounds really good.”

Activities assistant, Elaine Rivers, said: “Our residents have so many wonderful memories of sports days, their own and those of their children growing up.

“We do hope as many people from the local community can join us for a day full of fun.”

The sixth annual Care Home Open Day marks the time when homes nationwide welcome people in the community to share in the celebration and forge new friendships. The theme this year is “linking communities”.

Rowanweald is part of Sanctuary Care, now in its 20th year. The not-for-profit organisation is celebrating with a series of events across over 100 homes in England and Scotland.

The sports day will run from 10.30am to 12.30pm at Rowanweald Residential and Nursing Home, 1 Weald Lane, Harrow Weald, Harrow HA3 5EG.
