A housing boss will trek to the summit of the tallest mountain in Morocco as part of a 15-strong team to help defeat cancer in children.

Geeta Nanda from Harrow will join ambassadors from World Child Cancer to tackle the Jebel Toubkal peak in a five day ascent in April.

Ms Nanda, chief executive of Metropolitan housing association will be part of a team of charity and housing senior executives trekking the High Atlas Mountains of Marrakech from April 28 to May 2, in hopes of raising £80,000 for the charity.

Proceeds will be focused on victims from developing countries such as Ghana, Malawi, Bangladesh, Myanmar, Mexico, Cameroon, Philippines and six African countries.

Ms Nanda said this trek would be a huge challenge because she would not consider herself the ‘fittest person’ in the world. She added: “Some of the families World Child Cancer support travel hundreds of miles just to reach a hospital.

“Climbing the highest peak in the Atlas Mountains is the least I can do.”

World Child Cancer chief executive, Jon Rosser will be part of the expedition. Mr Rosser, said: “My greatest priority is to increase the amount of money we raise to ensure we save more lives.

“This trek is a fantastic opportunity to do this and stop more of the 300,000 children who develop cancer each year from dying unnecessarily.”

Money from the charity goes towards education and training for staff, improved facilities, therapy development and holistic patient care.

Metropolitan is a member of the National Housing Federation and the g15 representing London’s largest housing associations.
