As police plans to condense multiple boroughs under one single division loom just around the corner, new leadership will also come into effect.

In July this year, Harrow, Barnet and Brent will be consolidated under one basic command unit (BCU) under the new borough commander, Chief Superintendent Simon Rose, former commander for Barnet.

Chief Superintendent Rose will take over from Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens, who is now leading Met detention overseeing custody services.

The merger is part of a project to combine forces across London facing spending cuts on policing of up to £325m by 2021/2.

The Met Police’s current 32 borough model will be merged to create 12 basic command units (BCUs).

Chief Superintendent Simon Rose, said: “Having served at Brent then Harrow before becoming the Borough Commander at Barnet, I am fortunate to have knowledge of the local issues across the three boroughs.”

Chief Superintendent Rose added some things would ‘not change at all’ like the safer neighbourhood officers. But that the biggest changes would be a ‘slimming down’ in management and an increased level of supervision for officers.
