A rugby club is encouraging women to try out the sport by hosting a special training camp.

Fullerians Rugby Club, based in Coningesby Drive, Watford, is holding its own ‘Warrior Camp’ on January 28 to give women a chance to get to grips with the game.

Those attending will be introduced to the basics of rugby union, including passing, kicking and tackling, as well as the fitness aspects of the sport.

There will also be a number of key introductory skills and drills, with a non-committal, social and fun element.

The campaign is part of a wider drive to promote the sport among women by England Rugby.

Since it launched its ‘Inner Warrior’ programme in 2016, more than 10,500 women have attended camps across the country. Of these, 3,500 had never picked up a rugby ball before.

The influx of new participants into the women’s game has led to the creation of 41 new female contact rugby club teams this season, showing the growing interest and demand from budding female players feeling inspired to take up contact rugby.

Fullerians’ Warrior Camp takes place at the club’s ground on January 28 between 12pm and 1.30pm.
