Those behind a Crowdfunding campaign aimed at supporting vulnerable children and young people celebrated hitting their target with a special reception.

The fundraiser, which will benefit more than one thousand people through a range of projects across the borough, was set up by the Young Harrow Foundation.

Support from a number of organisations allowed it to build towards its goal and, having collected more than £50,000, it celebrated with a festive-themed event at Harrow School.

One of the major donors was ES Broadcast, and owner Edward Saunders explained how it was more than happy to help the cause.

He said: “Whilst ES Broadcast does business around the world, we believe it's really important to support our local community too.

“Young Harrow Foundation helps some of the most needy charities in our borough, doing some fantastic work with children and young people.

“It's not just about good business for me, but doing good as a business too. It’s an ethos that is really important to us as a company – and our customers also value this principle.”

Some of the charities that will benefit from the money include Every Step Matters, which helps those living with domestic violence, and Mathsmakers, which seeks to make maths accessible to all.

Refugee performing arts charity Paiwand, the 9th Kenton Scout Group and Roxeth Community Church will also receive support.

Others include Spear and Ignite Trust, which help young people find work, mental health support programme Arts for Life and the Centre for ADHD and Autism Support.

And the Somali Cultural and Educational Association will utilise some of the funding as part of its plan to encourage young people to explore the area they live in.

Dan Burke, CEO of the Young Harrow Foundation, said: “We need to continue to support charities like these to diversify their funding and ensure that they can sustain their programme of work for the children and young people that depend on them every day.”
