A woman has spoken of the thrill of taking to the catwalk as part of a charity fashion show in aid of Breast Cancer Care.

Pam Underwood, 54, from Harrow, joined 30 other breast cancer survivors for a day of glitz and glamour at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel in Central London.

A star-studded event which compromised drinks, entertainment and a series of runway shows raised vital funds and awareness of the charity.

Pam, who was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after her 50th birthday, said it was a once in a lifetime experience.

She said: “It’s something that I will not forget in a hurry. It was nerve-wracking and exciting and I felt privileged to be up there with all those amazing men and women.

“It’s helped raise a fantastic sum of money for Breast Cancer Care, as well as some valuable awareness, and it was great to be part of it. I think I’m only just coming down from the high.”

Denise Van Outen, Geri Halliwell, Jacquie Beltrao and Tony Christie were among the esteemed guests on the evening and Pam recalled how Cherie Blair was on hand to give her some flowers at the end of the show.

The day alone raised more than £370,000 with more expected to be added to the final total.

Samia al Qadhi, chief executive of Breast Cancer Care, said the show is a wonderful opportunity for survivors to showcase their pride and confidence.

She said: “When you are told that you have breast cancer, every bit of your life can change forever.

“It can shatter your self-esteem and make you feel unrecognisable when you look in the mirror.

“It can even make you feel uncomfortable in your own skin and in your clothes. Together with our generous sponsor, Comfort, we’re helping people living with breast cancer feel positive and confident in their clothes.”
