A new campaign wants to tackle an increase in motorbike accidents by encouraging drivers to take extra care on the roads.

Run by Harrow Council, it seeks to reduce the chance of crashes by asking them to ‘think bike, look twice’.

It has placed large banners in four priority hotspots – Harrow Weald, Hatch End, Marlborough and Stanmore – which will be up for six weeks.

Jeffery Sarpong, road safety officer at Harrow Council, said: “For awareness campaign purposes, particularly this one targeted at motorists, it was felt that a visual image was appropriate.”

The council explained how motorbikes are particularly vulnerable at junctions and in situations where other vehicles are performing manoeuvres such as overtaking and u-turns.

The campaign will run alongside the BikeSafe initiative, which encourages motorcyclists living in Harrow to undertake a special road safety course.
