Hundreds of runners from across Harrow came together to take part in the annual half marathon and a special family race.

Organisers from Harrow Athletics Club praised the wonderful atmosphere at a “special community event” and they are already looking forward to next year.

Many supporters packed the streets to cheer on the competitors while conditions were perfect for running – overcast, not too warm and, most importantly, no rain.

The main event was won by Mohammed Ismail in a time of 01:14:02, while Lucy Ashe from Harrow AC was the first female home in 01:24:43.

Keith Metcalfe, deputy head master at Harrow School, triumphed on his ‘home turf’ in the men’s over-40 category as he achieved seventh place overall with a time of 01:20:52.

It seems as if everyone was pleased with how the day went, including sponsors and special guests, though some runners naturally took issue with the hill finish.

London Assembly Member for Harrow Navin Shah was in attendance, as was the leader of Harrow Council, Sachin Shah.

They were joined by the Mayor of Harrow Margaret Devine who handed out medals to those who completed the Sir Roger Bannister Family Mile.

One of these was Gareth Thomas, MP for Harrow West, who came last in the event but did have the mitigating circumstance of carrying his daughter with him.
