A charity which aids burns victims has been celebrating one of its biggest ever fundraising efforts.

Children of Fire, headquartered in Pinner, joined forces with Watford-based building company ProCare Group to collect £5,000.

The money will help improve the charity’s facilities in Harrow, which caters for hundreds of children who have been affected by devastating fires.

Loide Ndemueda is one of those to have benefitted from the work of Children of Fire – she received a false hip following a burns injury.

Upon receiving the cheque on behalf of the charity, she said: “Across the world, people are bring burned by negligence or by attack.

“Raising money for burned children helps us to help individuals and at the same time to research ways in which to make buildings safer.”

This final point was reiterated by Children of Fire’s founder Bronwen Jones, who made reference to the tragedy at Grenfell Tower.

She explained how it reminded people how it is “essential” for us to understand the importance of proper building safety standards going forward.

The money was raised via ProCare’s inaugural charity golf day at West Herts Golf Club.

Teams of people made up from 26 construction companies took part, with former Middlesex and England cricketer Angus Fraser appearing as a special guest.

A singed Watford FC shirt brought in £1,000, while another £1,000 was added through guided tours of Fuller’s Brewery with none other than England’s rugby union record cap-holder Jason Leonard.
