A COLLECTION of summer concerts attended by more than 400 people helped raise £14,000 for St Luke’s Hospice.

Four groups – Little Big Band, Pop-Up Opera, North London Military Wives and the London Handel Players – took part in the special Proms series.

The St Luke’s organisers, headed by Gurpreet Madan, deemed the project a “success” and paid tribute to everyone involved.

“We would like to thank the venues – Park at the Arc, Headstone Manor, Harrow School and Little Stanmore’s Church of St Lawrence – the performers, volunteers and the committee,” Ms Madan said.

The money raised could be used in a number of ways, including funding three months’ worth of essential medicine for all the hospice’s patients.

Janet Fitzgerald, whose late mother requested that St Luke’s be remembered in her will, praised the concerts and, above all, the work carried out by the staff at the hospice.

“We have always recognised the well-organised, efficient haven of peace and rest which St Luke’s offers to those in need of their particular services,” she said.

“Keep up the excellent work you do and thank you to each of the dedicated, caring staff.

“I support the summer promenade concerts not only because of the fundraising element but I love listening to good classics.”
