A man has been arrested after a 90-year-old man was assaulted in his back while sitting on a bench in a park.
The victim was taken to hospital with two puncture wounds after the attack occurred at Oakmere Park, in Potters Bar, near the basketball pitch and Grove Road park entrance, at 1.30pm on Thursday July 6.
A 20-year-old man from Potters Bar has since been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and is currently in police custody.
Detective Inspector John Hazeldine, who is investigating, said: “This incident occurred on a sunny afternoon when I’m sure there were several people enjoying the nice weather in the park.
"I’m appealing to anyone who was in the park yesterday and witnessed this incident to get in touch as you may have information that could assist the investigation.
“I would also like to speak to anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously and running from the park via the Grove Road exit. This type of crime is extremely unusual in Potters Bar and there was a significant police response following the incident.
"The victim currently remains in hospital where he is recovering from his injuries.”
Anyone with information should contact Hertfordshire Constabulary on 101, quoting crime reference J3/17/944.
