A number of shoppers expressed their “shock” over the attack as they walked past the cordoned off street this afternoon.

Santoshi Padhiar has lived in Harrow on the Hill for eight years but has “never known incidents like this to happen”.

The 44-year-old said: “Something needs to be done to make sure Harrow does not become unsafe.

“I often walk around at night but don’t want to live in fear of being a target of attacks like this.”

Anne Langen, of Harrow and Wealdstone, regularly catches buses to Station Road but admitted she now feels dubious.

She said: “I was here last night waiting for a bus, but this has made me feel quite wary now.”

A father, who did not wish to be named, said: “I have lived in Harrow for 15 years and have two children aged 10 and six, but incidents like this do not usually happen.

“I’m really shocked about what has happened and I feel scared for my children as it seems the streets are becoming unsafe.”

College Road has been closed all day between A404 Junction Road and Station Road, outside Harrow on the Hill Station.

The Lowlands Road side of the station can only currently be accessed.

There have been no arrests.

Police were also called to Station Road at 9.11pm last Sunday night, where they found a teenager with stab wounds to his upper body.

He was taken by London Ambulance Service to a north London hospital for treatment, but his condition was not life threatening.
