More than 1,000 pupils across the borough will receive extra support with their mental health.

The Harrow Horizons service, which is run by Barnardo’s in partnership with the NHS and Harrow Council, has been launched this week in Pinner Road, Harrow.

Teachers, parents, health professionals or even young people themselves will be able to make a referral to the service, which is being run by emotional health and wellbeing experts to provide support for those in need.

Barnardo’s chief executive Javed Khan, who will officially launch Harrow Horizons, said: “I’m delighted that Barnardo’s is launching Harrow Horizons, which will help thousands of vulnerable children in this part of London work towards a positive future.

“By working closely with local schools and the community, we will reach out to young people in difficulty and reassure them that the support they need is close at hand."

Genevieve Small, GP and clinical director at Harrow Clinical Commissioning Group, said that young people will be encouraged to seek early support.

She said: “I am delighted to see the launch of this new service for the young people of Harrow by Barnardo’s.

“Harrow CCG have worked closely with the local authority and schools in Harrow to develop a service which will provide support for children and young people with emotional health and wellbeing needs.

“We are pleased that this innovative service will be able to offer responsive care to our young people, close to their homes and schools. Young people will be encouraged to seek early support from Harrow Horizons; evidence shows us that early interventions can reduce the need for more complex mental health care.”
