Members of a charity have launched a campaign in a bid to change the way people think about disabilities.

The team at Harrow Mencap organised a series of activities including a fashion show at St Anns Shopping Centre and a bus tour across the borough as part of their Here I Am campaign for Learning Disability Week.

The fashion show saw young people with learning disabilities on the catwalk modelling their favourite outfits to show there are “no limits” to what people with disabilities can achieve.

The bus tour started at Harrow on the Hill station and included stops in Pinner Green and Edgware.

On board the bus were people with learning disabilities who wanted to raise awareness and give visibility to people with learning disability who use public transport.

Sarah Scott, Harrow Mencap campaigns manager, said: “For learning disability week we wanted our activities and events to challenge public perceptions and show that there are no limits to what people with learning disabilities can achieve.

“The activities that the young people took part in allowed them to say Here I Am and show that although they have a disability, they can still do all sorts of things.

“We wouldn’t have been able to do the events without the young people and the local companies who gave up their time, services and products to help us.”
