A former Conservative candidate for the Harrow West constituency plans to stand again in the upcoming General Election.

Hannah David first stood in 2015 but will now “fight” current Labour MP Gareth Thomas to gain a seat on June 8.

Ms David said: ‘I am looking forward to taking the fight to Labour, for the good of Harrow and the country at large - we need to send Theresa May back to Downing Street.

“There is a clear choice in this election - strong and stable leadership in the national interest with Theresa May or a coalition of chaos under Jeremy Corbyn.

“The residents need an MP who will fight their corner with the government, with the council and with the Mayor. I am the woman to do that.”

On April 18, Prime Minister Theresa May called for a snap general election after fearing divisions at Westminster risked getting in the way of Brexit negotiations.

Mr Thomas, who has represented Harrow West since 1997, believes the election will be a chance to bring to light issues such as the NHS that have previously been overshadowed by Brexit talks.

He said: “Day after day this Tory Government is ignoring the growing crisis in our NHS, schools and police whilst all their attention is taken up by Brexit.

“I grew up in Harrow and have been privileged to represent my home area in Parliament.

“I have always seen it as my role to be a champion for Harrow in Westminster, and this general election is an opportunity to make sure Harrow has an MP who will fight for Harrow’s best interests.”
