For their 66th annual Shakespeare play, the Old Harrovian Players will perform Macbeth in Harrow School’s historic speech room.

Oscar Blustin, a freelance theatre director and artistic director of SPECIFIQ, a theatre company, who is working on the production, says: “Shakespeare’s breathless psychological thriller returns to Speech Room in all its gory glory. A celebrated soldier takes fate into his own hands and brutally seizes the throne, spurred on by his ruthless and ambitious wife.

“As paranoia takes hold, we witness the Macbeths’ violent descent through pitch-black magic and unshakeable nightmares to its inevitably bloody conclusion.”

In the past, many celebrated alumni, including Benedict Cumberbatch, James Callis and Richard Curtis, as well as Harrow parents Joanna Lumley and Peter O’Toole, have returned to Harrow to perform with the Old Harrovian Players and the organisations has said this production will “unite some familiar faces with emerging professional talent”.

Before Saturday’s performance there will be the chance to take a free guided tour of Harrow School’s famous Fourth Form Room, built in 1615 and the original classroom of the school.

It was used as the set for Professor Flitwick’s classroom in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and has appeared in numerous TV films, including BBC2’s drama Elizabeth and Mary, documentaries about the young Churchill and intriguingly featured prominently in More 4’s When Boris Met Dave about how they were shaped by their time at Eton.

The production will take place on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29 at 7.45pm. To reserve a seat, or for further information, please call 020 8872 8022 or email: pillaya@harrowschool.org.uk
