Nearly 100 young people from schools and clubs across Harrow were honoured for helping others in the community.

The Mayor of Harrow, Cllr Rekha Shah, handed out certificates to the array of winners, who were aged between 11 and 25, at Watersmeet Theatre, in Rickmansworth, on Friday February 24.

They had been nominated for the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards by their friends and family.

One of the winners included Aseela Khan, 15, who attends Bentley Wood High School, in Stanmore.

She volunteered on the Greek island of Lesbos with her family to help refugees crossing the sea from Turkey.

14-year-old Russl Habib, who attends Whitmore High School, in Harrow, also won for her anti-bullying campaign within the school.

She supports students who have social difficulties and helps them develop better relationships with their peers.

Ten adults also received a medallion and a framed certificate for demonstrating their ability to motivate young people.

Ms Shah said: “As the Mayor of Harrow, it was wonderful celebrating the varied achievements of our young people.

“They are an asset to our borough and I am happy the Jack Petchey Foundation celebrate and recognise their accomplishments.”
