Students from a school in Harrow had lunch with the former Archbishop of Canterbury.
The RT Rev Rowan Williams visited the The John Lyon School and hosted a lunch with year 11 pupils and sixth form students.
Following a talk about religion, Mr Williams took part in a question and answer session, where he was asked about a range of topics from the Roman Empire to the truth of the Genesis account.
Mr Mepham, head of religious studies and philosophy, said: “The boys listened with evident interest and impressed with the perceptive questions that followed the address.
"We are greatly indebted to Archbishop Rowan for his insights into the national religious scene and the connections that he made with wider societal trends - a fascinating topic."
Each week, students at the school gather for an hour-long debate and discussion, usually hosted by a guest speaker.
Speakers have included Virginia Ironside and Lord Young of Norwood Green Baroness Jay.
