Harrow’s 90-member Choral Society will celebrate the group’s 80 anniversary this April.

The society will also mark 25 years under the lead of Director of Music, Simon Williams, with a special concert at Harrow School.

Mr Williams has chosen Handel’s masterpiece Messiah, where the choir will be accompanied on period instruments by the Charivari Agréable Orchestra and several of the country’s leading professional soloists.

Chairman of HCS, Peter Miller, is urging people to join the group at a rehearsal one Monday evening.

He said: “If you’ve never been to a Harrow Choral Society concert, this is a great year to start! The choir is singing better than ever and we’re all very excited about the repertoire.

"If you want to brush up your skills, there’s our excellent training choir, Singing for Starters, which this year celebrates 20 years of introducing beginners to the magical world of choral singing.”

A summer concert is planned for July 1, which will feature music by Byrd, Tallis and Arvo Pärt.

The society rehearse at on Monday evenings from 7.45 pm at St Alban’s Church, Norwood Drive in North Harrow.

Tickets are £18 per adult.
