Between January and March, children with and without disabilities from two Harrow schools will come together to take part in a video and drama project delivered by arts charity Create.
Create’s Creative Connection programme will enable students from St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School and Shaftesbury High School, a special needs school for pupils aged between 11 and 19, to produce original films based on themes chosen by the students themselves.
12 students from each school will take part in six film and script writing workshops led by director and theatre maker Olly Hawes and filmmaker Lesley Pinder.
Create’s co-founder and chief executive, Nicky Goulder, said: “Having stimulating creative outlets and developing strong peer relationships are crucial for children and young people’s development.
“Creative Connection offers an exciting opportunity for children with and without special needs to collaborate on a project that improves their ability to trust and engage with each other as well to express themselves creatively.”
The programme has been designed to encourage the development of positive attitudes towards disabled people among children and young people through the experience of collaborative expression.
