Pupils were left speechless after receiving a surprise skype call from a Planet Earth producer and a letter from Sir David Attenborough himself.

Elizabeth White, a producer for BBC's Planet Earth 2, the popular British nature documentary series, called year five students at Kenmore Park Junior School in Moorhouse Road, Kenton, just before Christmas.

Ms White video called the students and answered questions on the series, after class teacher Rebecca Thomas sent a message on social media.

Ms White passed on a letter the pupils had written to Mr Attenborough, and were astonished when he replied.

Mrs Thomas said they were all so grateful to hear from him.

Mr Attenborough answered three questions chosen from the pupils.

He replied: "My greatest inspiration when young was an American author called Ernest Thompson Seton.

"I always wanted to study the natural world and I have never been in real danger while filming."

Class teacher Rebecca Thomas said: "It was a real honour to chat to her. The children and staff were in awe and are now truly inspired to follow in her footsteps.

"The knowledge and experiences she shared with us about the animals and climates she has worked with were phenomenal. It was a fantastic, once in a life time experience that we are all grateful for."
