Harrow has great cause to ring in the New Year as their very own Charlie Chaplin style float has won £8,000 for charity.
London’s New Year’s Day parade saw 18 boroughs battle it out for the number one prize, and Harrow won third place at the 2017 event.
This year’s chosen charities were Harrow Bereavement Care and Parkinsons UK.
Harrow Mayor Cllr Rekha Shah, who accepted a trophy on behalf of the borough, said: “What a great start to the New Year and a fantastic achievement.
"It makes me so proud, not just to come third, but to win the largest amount of money Harrow has ever won in the parade.
"It’s all down to our strong community spirit and the hard work of the team behind this year’s float.
“I’d like to thank our volunteers, Wiseworks and Cllrs John Hinkley and Jean Lammiman who spent a great amount of time and effort organising the Charlie Chaplin float.
"It was all worth it, seeing the float come to life on the day and bring great joy to the thousands of people in the crowds – we loved it, thank you all.”
People working with Wiseworks, Harrow In Europe, Harrow Film Makers, O’Hara Bros, Harrow Council and dancers from Berverley School of Performing Arts spent two months the preparing the entry and their dance routine.
The City of Westminster borough won first place with their Mary Poppins themed float and the borough of Lambeth took second place.
