This year, we have reported on a number of good and bad stories that has hit the borough of Harrow. 

From Honey G to car crashes and Harrow council's latest draft revenue budget, this year has been a busy one for Harrow. 

Here are 12 of the best read stories in 2016:

January:

Man who raped and strangled a 31-year-old woman in her North Harrow home faces at least 30 years behind bars

Harrow Times:

A mechanic who raped and strangled a 'beautiful and talented' city lawyer to death in her family home was sentenced to at least 30 years behind bars.

Peter Kibisu, 23, killed Elizabeth Nnyanzi, 31, after being entrusted to stay at the £600,000 house in Harrow as a close family friend.

Kibisu was arrested the day after Elizabeth, who attended Cheltenham Ladies' College, was found dead in her bedroom on August 14 last year.

He pleaded guilty to the murder in November but continued to deny raping her until a hearing at the Old Bailey on January 8.

February: 

Thieves smash bay window to steal £50k of jewellery from Harrow family home

Harrow Times:

Thieves smashed through a bay window of a family home in Harrow and stole around £50,000 worth of jewellery.

Mirza Shahzad and his family had left their home in Headstone Lane to go out for dinner on February 7.

When they returned at about 8.50pm they found glass all over the driveway from where a bay window at the front of their house had been smashed.

A large safe containing around £50,000 worth of family jewellery and £450 cash was missing.

Mr Shahzad said: "I have young children, they're so scared they don't want to come in the house.

"I can't go to work, they're depressed and scared all the time."

March:

Boy in hospital after bus crash in central Harrow this morning

Harrow Times:

A boy was taken to hospital after he was hit by a bus in Harrow town centre.

Emergency services were called to the junction of Station Road and St Anns Road shortly after 8.30am following reports of a crash between a bus and a child.

Paramedics with the London Ambulance Service and the air ambulance attended.

The boy was taken to a west London hospital.

April:

250 jobs at risk as Kodak Alaris facility set to close in Harrow

Harrow Times:

A "drop in demand coming into the factory" sparked concern as 250 jobs were at risk after Kodak Alaris bosses proposed closing its Harrow site.

The company cited a when it made the announcement to employees at the Headstone Gardens facility in April this year.

Brian McGowan, head of operations at Kodak Alaris, said: "It's very disappointing news for people here in Harrow and for us, but it is in the best interests of Kodak Alaris as we strive to position ourselves as an independent company."

May:

Sapnay School of Dance in Harrow school appear on Britain's Got Talent

Harrow Times:

A Harrow dance school took a never-seen before version of Bollywood and hip-hop to the Britain's Got Talent stage.

Sapnay School of Dance, which is based in Harrow,featured on the ITV show on Saturday, May 21.

Artistic director Ash Oberoi created the dance fusion especially for the show, to push forward both dance styles into another dimension.

Ms Oberoi said: “The UK hasn’t seen anything like this before – Bollywood and hip hop together. We have seen it separately but no one has brought it together.

June:

Travellers set up camp in Edgware

Harrow Times:

Neighbours were left worried after travellers set up camp at a recreation ground in Edgware.

Five caravans arrived at Chandos Recreation Ground, on Camrose Avenue in June this year. 

Jack Welby, who lives on nearby Merlin Crescent, said "I have got nothing against them but the problem is they leave it in a mess. 

"If they gave them a small piece of land then this would be okay."

Harrow councillor Gareth Henson said the group had been told to move by Friday at the latest.

July:

Bus taking school pupils home crashes outside Edgware tube station

Harrow Times:

A bus carrying school pupils crashed outside Edgware tube station.

The route 688 bus was taking JFS students home from school when it crashed on Station Road at around 4.30pm.

A wheel fell off the back of the bus and hit a van at the junction of Station Road and Manor Park Crescent.

Fortunately, no-one was injured.

August:

Fly-tippers caught dumping on camera said they only stopped for a wee

Harrow Times:

Two fly-tippers from Harrow who claimed they had stopped in a country lane to have a wee, were fined £800 each for fly-tipping.

Philip William Cash, 65, and son Martin Jude Cash, 28, both of Alexandra Avenue, Harrow, were snapped dumping the waste in a country lane in Chalfont St Peter, Bucks, in March.

They eventually plead guilty to offences of dumping waste illegally at Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on August 3.

Each man was ordered to pay more than £800 in clean-up and prosecution costs.

September:

REVEALED: Harrow eateries with a ZERO food hygiene rating

Harrow Times:

According to the Food Standards Agency website on September 9, 2016, 13 restaurants in Harrow had been handed zero hygiene ratings.

Food hygiene ratings are given to eateries such as restaurants, takeaways, cafes, sandwich shops, pubs and hotels.

Zero means “urgent improvement is necessary”.

October :

Neighbours shocked by arrest of 'nice guy' Jason Matthews after dramatic three-day Northolt siege

Harrow Times:

A three-day siege shocked a neighbourhood after a local dad dramatically ended things when officers stormed his Northolt home.

Jason Matthews, 46, barricaded himself in his Wood End Lane home surrounded by petrol and other “combustible materials” in the early hours, refusing all requests to speak with police negotiators.

He was arrested on suspicion of cultivation of cannabis, affray, and offences under the explosives act, and was taken to a west London police station for questioning. 

It was revealed that he had later been sectioned under the Mental Health Act.

November: 

Woman, 50, found dead in Marsh Road, Pinner

Harrow Times:

An investigation was launched after a woman was found dead in Pinner.

Police officers were called by London Ambulance Service at 12:04pm to Marsh Road on November 16. 

Officers believe they know the identity of the woman, 50, but next of kin have not been informed.

December:

Man discharged from hospital after being hit by car in Stanmore

Harrow Times:

A man was left with life-threatening injuries after being hit by car in Stanmore.

Police were called by the London Ambulance service at 7.48am on Tuesday (Dec 13) after a man believed to be in his 20s, was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

No arrests were made, and the man was discharged three days later.
