An environmental waste clearance company has revealed that Harrow is the fourth best borough in London when it comes to household recycling.

Based on recycling data, EnviroWaste who operate in central London, has revealed that only four boroughs out of 32 are above the national domestic recycling average of 44.9 per cent.

Harrow was ranked at 45.7 per cent, just below Bexley, Bromley and Kingston upon Thames from 2014-2015.

The figures also show that the household recycling rate for London was 33.10 per cent in 2014-2015, compared with 43.67 per cent in England.

This new figure is 0.2 per cent increase from 43.5% rate in England from 2013-14 and almost 90% of London is below the national average.

James Rubin owner of EnviroWaste said: "It’s very surprising to discover that the majority of London is falling below the UK national average, especially with wealthy boroughs like Westminster where the household recycling rate is just 19.10%.

"In our experience areas with a high population density produce larger volumes of overall waste, making it so much harder to police and manage.

"We have also found areas where there are more renters and less home owners tend to be less involved in recycling their waste."
