Plans to build tower blocks with studio homes starting from £280,000 have infuriated people across the borough.

A ‘landmark scheme’ titled Harrow Square, will consist of 318 studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments and a 1,450 sq m library, in College Road.

Harrow Square is part of the £365m regeneration programme, and also forms part of the Heart of Harrow Action Plan and Opportunity Area.

Pamela Swain of Pinner Park Avenue in Harrow, said there were “hundreds of flats” being built across the borough, and questions why these type of homes are being built.

Ms Swain said: “The plan to build four tower blocks and studio homes sounds horrendous.

“This will be the end of Harrow as a great place to live if the Council go ahead with these outrageous plans.

“Where are the houses with gardens for the children? What kind of standard of living are all these people in flats going to have? How is the Council going to cope with all the rubbish, fly tipping, general infrastructure such as schools, doctors etc.

“Instead of Homes blockbuster the title should be the Ruination of Harrow.”

The Heart of Harrow Action Plan aims to invest £1.75bn into Harrow and Wealdstone town centres Ove the next ten years.

A studio bedroom apartment starts at £284,500, and most apartments will feature private balconies and roof terraces.

A 45 car park will be built in the basement, along with electric car charging points and cycle racks.

William Miles, 72, of Rayners Lane said: “Everybody is so angry by these plans. I have lived in Harrow all my life, and there is nothing in Harrow that is 16 storeys high. A group of us has previously put in petitions against plans such as these in the past, but we are ignored.”

The housing association Hyde Group is reportedly managing 51 of the new homes, allocated as affordable.

Gary Patrick, Regional Sales Director, Barratt London, has said that Harrow Square is a "crucial element in Harrow’s ambitious regeneration plans."

Mr Patrick said: "It is a scheme that will benefit the entire community, with a new public space designed by internationally renowned architects.

"There has already been strong interest in the development, as Harrow offers excellent connectivity into central London.”
