More than 40 homes will be built on the site of a former Harrow car park.

Autor Architecture has been given the green light to build a five-storey block which would have 42 flats.

The current car park in the crook of Greenhill Road and Greenhill Way has been empty for the last eight years despite two former landowners who have submitted three separate planning applications.

The developer will now to build a part three, part four and part five storey building with a basement, providing six affordable flats and 2 parking spaces.

Speaking before the application was passed, Keith Araujo, from Butler Road in Harrow, said the surrounding neighbours lives would be "blighted" if the application was given the go-ahead.

He said: "Every few years , an application is made to build a big block of flats in this Car Park. The amount of dust, noise , invasion of privacy , impact on light is frankly unacceptable.

"Our borough is already overcrowded, dirty, rat infested and starved of government funding (especially the NHS) , don't make this things by allowing further developments like this.

"It seems that all the old sky high office blocks are currently being converted so Harrow is going to be even more overcrowded with massive impact to our GP practices , Hospitals and schools and general standard of living. It must stop now."

Autor Architecture has recently been granted permission to build turn a disused public toilet in Greenhill Way into eight homes and two retail units

MD Frederic Akuffo told the Times: “We looked for design inspiration at the existing houses on Greenhill Way and Greenhill Road and took into account the large buildings that may well be to come as part of the council's upcoming plans - and we created designs for a building that could mediate between the two.

“The different types of brick on the building make it interesting to look at - while being affordable to build. And we have been able to add a green urban realm.

"All without losing out on any of the homes that Harrow so dearly needs.”

The application was approved at a council meeting last night.
