An Edgware arts and theatre school is preparing to bid farewell to its long-standing principal.

Chrystel Arts Theatre School is marking the retirement of its long-standing principal by inviting students past and present to a tea party.

Elaine Twining, then Minter, started her dance training at the age of four with The Doris Clark School of Dancing, which held weekly classes at The Shakespeare Hall on Manor Park Crescent.

She was taught by then-principal Jill Price and continued there until she went to undergo teacher training at the London College of Dance.

When she qualified, she returned to the school as an assistant and the school changed names to Edgware Dance Studios, moving venue to St James’ Church on Hale Lane.

When Jill Price retired in 1987, Elaine took over the school with her sister Christine Minter, changing the name again to Chrystel Arts. The school remained at St James’ Church until 2006 when it moved to Edgware Parish Hall on Rectory Lane.

After 29 years as principal and 58 years of dancing, Elaine hands over the running of the school to her sister.

The school would like to invite any friends who may have danced with Elaine, or been taught by her, to a celebration party at Edgware Parish Hall on Saturday, July 16, between 3.30pm and 6pm.

The school is holding a collection and creating a memory book for Elaine. If you would like to be involved in any way, please contact chrystelarts@waitrose.com
