More than 200 people came together at Pinner Synagogue to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

Dignitaries from across the local and Jewish communities attended the gala dinner, and were honoured to hear a speech from keynote speaker Chief Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis.

Addressing the audience, Rabbi Mirvis, who fixed a mezuzah to the new doorpost of the Cecil Park synagogue as part of the formalities, said it was a privilege to attend the event.

“This is an incredible event at an historic moment for the community in Pinner,” he said.

“You have so much activity and creativity here. You never stop growing, developing and thriving. You are a forward-looking community, a marvellous community.

“Pinner, take those wings and fly. The Promised Land lies ahead.”

Also on the guest list was former Pinner Synagogue Rabbi Yaakov Grunewald, Mayor Rekha Shah, police Chief Superintendent Simon Ovens and President of the United Synagogue Stephen Pack.

Having first established itself in the village of Pinner in 1940, the current building was consecrated in 1981.

Pinner Synagogue chairman Brian Eisenberg said he was proud of all the community had achieved in the past 75 years.

“I find it thrilling to be in the chair at this auspicious and unique time, and able to look back on a wonderful, positive, inspiring history in which we have grown in size and in stature, and proven ourselves to be a warm and inviting community where everyone is welcomed,” he said.

“We now look with great excitement towards our centenary based on a solid foundation with known challenges but the Pinner ‘can do’ attitude to our advantage.”
