One of Edgware’s first sheltered housing properties has celebrated its 50th birthday.

Staff and tenants at Gordon Court in Stonegrove got together with family and friends to mark the milestone, and Mayor of Harrow Rekha Shah paid a visit to help cut the commemorative cake.

Gordon Court was built in 1966 by the housing association now known as jLiving. It became the first of 17 homes now owned by the company, which today looks after around 500 older people.

Greta Hoser, 84, has lived at Gordon Court for four years. She was joined at the party by her daughter Alicia and grand-daughter Millie.

“Before I came to Gordon Court I lived at jLiving’s property in Margate for five years,” she said.

“I moved to be nearer to my family and I love it here.”

Corinne Green, 57, has been at the Harrow home for three years. Her mother Jacqueline said she had acclimatised very well despite being deaf, adding: “Everyone has been wonderful in helping her settle in.”
