A West London police officer has been jailed for rape.

Michael Graham, 49, was convicted at the Old Bailey on Thursday of seven counts of rape and one of sexual assault.

Graham, a serving police officer attached to Hounslow Borough, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison.

The offences took place between December 24, 2013 and September 2, 2014 at an address in Uxbridge while the officer was off duty.

Police were called the address where Graham was initially arrested for common assault and threats to kill. Officers found the 30-year-old victim in a distressed state in a nearby park.

She made allegations of rape against Graham, and he was subsequently suspended from duty.

An investigation was then launched by detectives at the Met’s Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command.

The court heard how some of the offences were captured on an app which had been installed on the victim’s phone.

Detective Constable Stephen Kelly, of the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said: "I would like to praise the victim for her bravery in coming forward and reporting her ordeal at the hands of Graham to the police.

“Without her evidence, the offences Graham committed could not have been investigated and he would not be facing a lengthy prison sentence."
