A 16-year-old cycled 33 miles for St Luke's Hospice to celebrate his birthday.

More than 20 people joined the ride as part of St Luke’s On Your Bike event on Sunday, April 24, and raised over £3,000.

But it was a duel celebration for Oliver Jenks, of Kenton, when he crossed the finish line.

Oliver said: "I really enjoyed the cycling and it was brilliant to be raising money for St Luke’s.

"I would highly recommend it to anyone. I also support the hospice by collecting old mobile phones and ink cartridges at my school, Claremont High School."

Snehal Patel, 49, also took part in On Your Bike. He cycled with friends in a team called ‘This Guy Needs a Samosa’.

Mr Patel said: "It was a great day for a brilliant cause. It was also a chance to exercise and have a samosa! I would recommend anyone to do it and support their local hospice."

St Luke’s supporters joined the supporters of Michael Sobell Hospice in Northwood for the challenge to help riders get fit and raise money for their local hospice.

Cyclists enjoyed a scenic route through Amersham, Bovingdon and Hemel Hempstead and St Luke’s cyclists helped to raise £3,000.

Michael Sobell Hospice is hoping to have raised £10,000 once all sponsorship is collected by the 164 people who completed the ride for the charity.

St Luke's is looking for people to sign up to Ride London-Surrey 100 challenge on Sunday, July 31.

Join 26,000 other cyclists on a 100-mile course that follows 2012's Olympic road race route, starting at the Queen Elizabeth II Olympic Park, passing through London and out to the challenging Surrey hills, then looping back and finishing on The Mall.

Minimum sponsorship is £250. Enter at www.stlukes-hospice.org/ridelondon or call 020 8382 8112.
