A DANCE crew will “light up” the stage during a charity talent competition.

Members of JK Dance Academy, in Haringey, will perform at the North London’s Got Talent contest, presented by North London Hospice, on Saturday February 6 at 7pm.

Jessica Hewitson, founder and principal of the academy that is based across London, teaches dance to year 5 pupils at Ashmount Primary School, Crouch Hill, and 20 of her students will be part of the crew competing.

She has revealed their personalities will shine though as they perform an American themed dance that will mix street and contemporary styles.

She said: “There will be lots of dancing along to the rapper, Missy Elliot and I think it will be really entertaining.

“We have only had since December to prepare and as I only work term time, there hasn’t been long to practice.

“My classes are only half an hour each week, so it is really an achievement that they have been able to reach such a grand scale in a short amount of time.”

Ms Hewitson began teaching dance at the school six years ago after her daughter started her reception class and she wanted to help out.

However, she now teaches nearly every year and hopes that one day the pupils will be able to enter more competitions.

She added: “They are all really excited, as they have never competed like this before.

“It means a lot to them to have this chance, especially as the talent show will be raising money for such a great cause.”

Tickets for North London’s Got Talent cost £15
