A PR manager is appealing for sponsorship as she prepares to chop 12 inches off her hair to make a wig for a child with cancer.

Meagan Woolf, 34, a PR and marketing manager working in Stanmore, is part of a group of six women who plan to give their hair to Zichron Menachem - an Israeli charity supporting sick children throughout their treatment.

The ceremonial hair cutting will take place in July 2016, when the charity will be bringing a group of children to visit London and take a break from treatment.

Meagan, from Golders Green, said: “For many women their hair is their crowning glory. It is where they get a lot of their self esteem from.

“These children lost their hair during chemotherapy, and, along with their illness it is just terrible for their sense of self.

“This is my way of giving back, even in a small way and I’m lucky I am healthy and my hair will grow back.”

Meagan first became involved with the charity two years ago when she volunteered to help run their summer trip to London, taking the children to tourist sites and playing games. She now aims to get sponsored and raise £1 000 for the charity.

Her hair will be used to make a bespoke wig for a child who has lost their hair during treatment.

Between now and July she will be growing her hair and using oils and taking vitamins to keep it in top condition.

She said: “My hair is roughly 30cm long and currently falls mid way down my back. By July people are saying I will look like Cousin It, my hair will be so long.”

Zichron Menachem was started in 1990 by two Israeli parents who lost their 15-year-old son to cancer. They work to support children and young people from diagnosis, through treatment and to recovery at centers across Israel. They run Summer and Winter camps where sick children and young people are treated to fun trips abroad.

Meagan says she will feel “shocked” when her hair is finally cut but says she will “get used to it.”

She added: “My family have been affected first hand by cancer, as many families have, so this is my small way of doing something to give back.”
