COMMUNITY members can come together next week for stalls and screenings about African history.

Being organised by the Harrow Black History Month Group in association with Harrow Council, Harrow Mencap, and Akoben Awards, the civic centre in Station Road, Harrow, will play host to people from across the borough for the launch of Harrow's African History Season.

With this season's theme being British History 50:70, the free event will take place over the coming weeks and includes talks, Q&As screenings, community stalls and refreshments.

Harrow BHM Group chair Deven Pillay said: "Our learning and celebration of African history should be embedded in our everyday lives.

"Until each institution achieves this goal, African or Black History Month is a necessity in order to highlight these gaps and omissions, and to also bring all communities together to reflect and celebrate African achievements."

Harrow BHM Group is a community-led steering group that organises Black History Month events with funding from and on behalf of Harrow Council, and with input from the Harrow BHM Forum and community organisations.

The free launch event is to take place on Monday, October 5 from 6.30pm at Harrow Civic Centre.
